Easter holidays hurrah! Two weeks of relaxing.
I might of mentioned it before or I might not of but if you own an Xbox 360…. Buy Crackdown. Its just a game you can pick up and enjoy without having to get into it. Go in blow the shit out of some bad guys and then leave. Its just a fun game to play.
And I’ve just updated Wordpress to the latest version because of another round of security updates. I don’t know about you guys but does it seem updates are coming out more often for Wordpress in the last 6 months, I know I could go look at release dates and so on but that requires effort.
I think the temperature has dropped quite a bit down here in Hell….
Why? Well maybe its something to do with this
Now can someone pass me my jumper?
EDIT: And on a totally unrelated matter. Happy birthday Nick! (I won’t link because I know how you like your privacy)
So I’ve bitten the bullet and upgraded just about everything here. I’ve also de-sxoreified my blog while I was at it too. It seems sxore themselves have put a plugin to Wordpress to import comments back into Wordpress, I tried use the tool Conor sent me how ever my python setup didn’t like to work with the modules he used. Although one quirk with sxore’s plugin I can see the comments in the Admin menu, its not displaying on the actual page itself. I’m going to have to poke about and see what I can do about that.
I went to the Microsoft tech launch for Windows Vista in Novemeber where we all are suppoused to be getting a free copy of Home Premium (Soon enough too). However I’ve just seen the swag at the US launch party of Vista…. the difference in swag is quite a bit alright.
Its been a while since I’ve posted anything new and so long that its disappeared off my recent entry list in firefox.
So whats new in my life:
Leaving Cert Mocks start on the 5th of Feburary.
I. am. fucked. and yet strangely calm about it. Its just a piece of paper at the end of the day and there are always another way of getting to do the things you want. For college I’m looking at Computer Applications in DCU followed by Computing in DIT.
I got an email from Flightwise telling me that groundschool is starting shortly and I’m debating with my parents should I do it or not because it might impact on my leaving cert. Sometimes is so tempting to shout out NEWSFLASH DON’T CARE ABOUT THAT. I’M ALL ABOUT NOW AND THATS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AWAY.
I have some books on the way from Amazon of which one is the Cisco CCNA book. I’m hoping it will go along with the 2600 Router and Catalyst 2950 at the end of my bed and allow me to get a CCNA before the year is out.
I have yet to book my driving lessons which I should really do so I can get out on the road to be raped by the insurance company.
Robb is having his wedding reception on Saturday. Its finally here after all the planning etc. Congrats man!
Thats all I can think of for now but it appears Gavin has tagged me. Arses! I’ll come up with some new stuff to beat the curse.
I also have a beta invite to Joost and I really haven’t had much time to play about with it but can someone tell me what actually content is there? I see like the Paris Hilton channel but is there any channels which show the latest episode of my favourite shows like 24, Stargate (both), Prison Break etc?
Also nominations are open for the Irish Blog Awards. So pop on over and make your vote count!
For the odd person out there who is interested in installing Subversion using a external copy of apr/apr-util with BerkeleyDB you have to compile apr-util using –with-berkeley-db. This caused me a pain in my face for a good while until I found that in the changelog.
Appearently Microsoft are giving out fairly nice laptops to bloggers but now its seemed to turn into a huge ethics debate about should they keep them or not. And someone has gone off and made a list of bloggers who also got a laptop and what were they going to do with it, looks like the majority of them will keep the laptop and if I ended up in that situation I’d probably keep it too. If someone wants to send out free stuff to me then let them go ahead.
Hell 3000 people in Ireland are going to get their hands on a copy of Vista for showing up at the Technet event in Croke Park a few weeks back. However some people are changing their attitude about recieving gifts like Joel who is now no longer accepting anything.
Although odds are nobody will ever read this because looking at my Analytics account the hits on this site has dropped to zero.
I somehow managed to confuse the year I’m in. I was looking at my control panel at GoDaddy to see on my domains were going to expire on 11-9-07 and I was thinking oh shit that was a while back now, why is it still active? why won’t it let me renew? I’ve had this domain seven years I can’t loose it now!
So I went off and transferred it to my enom account, then it struck me that I’m still in 2006…
I shouldn’t be allowed to poke around with linux when I’m tired. After setting various things up on my VPS (httpd, postgresql, subversion) I was trying to get apache to work properly with my name based setup (Things weren’t working exactly) so I was poking about various tools and reading the man pages for them etc. But I wasn’t paying attention and forgot the man part of sys-unconfig. Here’s some free advice. Don’t.
Needless to say the box being a VPS (Sorry Paul again!) it has wiped out its network settings and I can no longer access it. I’d die for a IPMI card about now.
It appears my Xbox360 console has just died. When I’m playing games I get a few minutes in and the screen either goes black and fills up with random colours so I sent an email off to Xbox support and got a fairly prompt reply back from Omar (Automated or not, prompt) telling me to call Customer support to resolve my problem.
I decided to double check my battery on my Dell laptop to see if was a suspect sony battery and liable to explode. And it is! So I now have a new battery on its way to me.
And only wanting to order books for this christmas, they won’t arrive in time unless I pay for the priority shipping which would make the shipping as expensive as the books. So I’ll wait then.
I’ve come home today to find I card shaped letter waiting for me, and as I was not expecting a card my curiosity was aroused. And I’ve opened it up to find a picture of earth from the moon and inside it says the following:
Thank You
Thank you for choosing XenPlanet this year. We appreciate your business.
Wishing you a happy holiday season, and a successful and a prosperous new year.
- XenPlanet.com
Now it may not seem like much but I have to say I was surprised to actually get a card from a business that I deal with regularly. It’s the little personal touch that would encourage me to give more business to them in the future.
