Like we'd be any worse with a chunk of the government missing! :P Bertie's a "man of the people". People love him 'cos he's cuddly and frustratingly ordinarily. As you've pointed out each time more information on the alleged fraud has surfaced popularity has gone up. Maybe it's a case of the people liking the fact that Bertie ("man of the people") may have got one over on the IRS.
