Wrong year?

I somehow managed to confuse the year I’m in. I was looking at my control panel at GoDaddy to see on my domains were going to expire on 11-9-07 and I was thinking oh shit that was a while back now, why is it still active? why won’t it let me renew? I’ve had this domain seven years I can’t loose it now!

So I went off and transferred it to my enom account, then it struck me that I’m still in 2006…

Don’t push that button!

I shouldn’t be allowed to poke around with linux when I’m tired. After setting various things up on my VPS (httpd, postgresql, subversion) I was trying to get apache to work properly with my name based setup (Things weren’t working exactly) so I was poking about various tools and reading the man pages for them etc. But I wasn’t paying attention and forgot the man part of sys-unconfig. Here’s some free advice. Don’t.

Needless to say the box being a VPS (Sorry Paul again!) it has wiped out its network settings and I can no longer access it. I’d die for a IPMI card about now.

Ah crap, I don’t need this now

It appears my Xbox360 console has just died. When I’m playing games I get a few minutes in and the screen either goes black and fills up with random colours so I sent an email off to Xbox support and got a fairly prompt reply back from Omar (Automated or not, prompt) telling me to call Customer support to resolve my problem.

I decided to double check my battery on my Dell laptop to see if was a suspect sony battery and liable to explode. And it is! So I now have a new battery on its way to me.

And only wanting to order books for this christmas, they won’t arrive in time unless I pay for the priority shipping which would make the shipping as expensive as the books. So I’ll wait then.

Now that’s how to do business!

I’ve come home today to find I card shaped letter waiting for me, and as I was not expecting a card my curiosity was aroused. And I’ve opened it up to find a picture of earth from the moon and inside it says the following:

Thank You

Thank you for choosing XenPlanet this year. We appreciate your business.

Wishing you a happy holiday season, and a successful and a prosperous new year.

- XenPlanet.com

Now it may not seem like much but I have to say I was surprised to actually get a card from a business that I deal with regularly. It’s the little personal touch that would encourage me to give more business to them in the future.

Silly security crap

For some unknown reason the 365online account seems to hate you when you hit the enter button instead of clicking on Enter and refuse you a login and claim you entered your details wrong. Needless to say I was trying to login at a late hour and I was tired tried several times before I remembered the fact you have to click enter.

Then I was presented with a error page saying call them. So I just did and who knew for “added security” I have to actually give them my full bank account number instead of my 365online login id. So not having any statements to hand they transferred me to my branch to get that account number.

Then I asked for my account number and had to provide my ATM number and several security questions. Then they gave me my account number and I called back 365online with this number and told me that my account was blocked since I entered my pin in wrong three times! Shock horror! And they now have to send me out a new pin instead of just unblocking my old one and before they could do that, I’d have to answer some security questions (of which some overlapped) and then call them back to confirm my new pin before I can login again. Does anyone else consider this to be a little excessive or am I just getting cranky with old age.

And I’m heading off to the Microsoft Vista launch thing for the B seminar so maybe I’ll see you there!

Blogging live from my kitchen.

So here I am in my kitchen blogging direct while I make myself dinner. At this hour I hear you say? Well to cut a long story very short, everyone else in the house is somewhere else so I get some peace and quiet for a while. And since I’m a very lazy eater I’ve only gotten around to cooking something now.

Although I don’t know if I would consider some rashers and sausages dinner. Then again I’m a lazy eater so the other choice would of been to order a pizza. (Which was done yesterday)

And in the backround I have my Xbox 360 streaming music from my PC via Tversity and I can say there is nothing quite like the sound of The Dandy Warhols - We used to be friends blasting out via the surround sound setup down in the sitting room.
